The Rollinsford Fire Department is looking for motivated, dedicated individuals that have a strong desire to help others.  If you live in the community and want to help, we want to talk to you.  There are a few things that will help in your decision to step up to the challenge of being a volunteer firefighter.  We are looking for people that;

• Can give of themselves and help others at a moments notice
• Can forsake family time, rest and meals
• Want to be part of something much larger than themselves

The volunteer fire service is a noble vocation and should be approached with a high level of commitment.  Those that are involved in the volunteer fire service will tell you that it is not a hobby, but a way of life.  It takes a high level of commitment not just from you, but your family as well.  They should understand what it means to volunteer with a fire department, and are welcome and encouraged to ask questions.

There are certain expectations that we have of our members.  An understanding of those expectations now will help you in your decision to pursue this endeavor.  As a member of the Rollinsford Fire Department we expect you to:

1. Be active.  The only way to gain the trust and respect from your peers is to be as active within the organization as possible.  We meet every Monday night from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  During this time we are either training, conducting meetings, or performing station/equipment maintenance.
2. Train.  Training is the one tool that we use to gauge how well you will perform on the job.  Training builds the trust that is essential in the fire service.  We have stringent training requirements that must be met.
3. Be respectful.  The members of the Rollinsford Fire Department come from all walks of life.  Some have been in the fire service for decades, while some have been in for just a short amount of time.  Pay attention and learn from those that are willing to teach you.
4. Be proactive.  Strive to better yourself and the organization.  This has rewarding dividends should you want to advance within the department and if you decide to make a career of the fire service.  Many Rollinsford firefighters have gone on to career departments within the area.
5. Assist with Association efforts.  The Rollinsford Firefighter’s Association is a New Hampshire charitable organization that raises money for many reasons.  They support the local youth, sponsor a scholarship in the name of a Rollinsford firefighter killed in the line of duty, purchase various emergency equipment and organize and run the holiday toy drive just to name a few things.  Several fund raising events are scheduled throughout the year that requires the help of many.
6. Most importantly, show up for calls.  After all, that's why we're here.

The importance of participation can not be emphasized enough.  Through your willingness to learn and participate, you will find that the members of the department will quickly take you in and regard you as one of their own.

Still not sure?  Stop in on any Monday night and see what we're all about.  Meet the firefighters, check out the station and equipment, and ask as many questions as you want.  We want you to make this decision with as much information as possible.
