In 1882, the town of Rollinsford found it necessary to protect its inhabitants from the devestation of fire.  At that time, two private fire companies were formed, and each protected separate areas of the town.

The Newichawannock Fire Company was housed in the Sligo section of the town and protected the farm houses located in the area.  The Newichawannock Fire Company served the town until 1894 when it was disbanded.

The Excelsior Fire Company has a longer history of protecting the town.  The Excelsior Fire Company was housed in the village of Salmon Falls (which today is the downtown area).  It protected the larger homes of the mill employees, as well as the Salmon Falls Manufacturing Company and the foundry.  Excelsior originally disbanded in 1895 when the town organized their first volunteer fire department.  However, for unknown reasons, the town could not maintain the fire department and Excelsior was reorganized in 1897.  The Excelsior Fire Company finally met its demise in 1922 when the town organized what is today, the Rollinsford Fire Department

Organized in 1922 and incorporated in 1940, the Rollinsford Fire Department has a proud history of protecting its residents.

We at the Rollinsford  Fire Department look forward to carrying on the proud history of faithful service to our residents, visitors and neighbors.
